Description

Some scenes from Sequences 14 and 15 from 'Dawnsong.'

Experiments with pastels.
Now i get why people work with pastel! Look how brilliant that color got!
(The depiction in seq 14 scene (middle) is supposed to be set in a burrow lined with glowing coals, in a french midnight. So, as you can guess, I will be fucking with the colors for the longest time.

(Fun Fact: It being both public domain and MUCH less awful than the music i was thinking of, I have synced the entire Sequence 15 to 'Pines of Rome: The Pines along the Via Appia' starting at 2:20 of this [link] . The scenes of him taking flight at 3:35, 3:46, 3:59 etc. representing trees and cloud barriers being broken. The scene at the top is timed perfectly to hit at 4:46 and bring you to joyous tears. They're not all gone, even if they're dead.)
"The final movement, "I pini della Via Appia", portrays pine trees along the great Appian Way. Misty dawn: a legion advances along the Via Appia in the brilliance of the newly-risen sun. Respighi wanted the ground to tremble under the footsteps of his army and he instructs the organ to play bottom B flat on 8', 16' and 32' organ pedal. The score calls for buccine - ancient trumpets that are usually represented by flugelhorns. Trumpets peal and the consular army rises in triumph to the Capitoline Hill."

Good for a WIP/outline. And good thing you have more patience with pastels than I do. :XD:

You know, Pines of the Appian Way makes me think of some animal (bird, dragon, whatever) taking flight for the first time too. Particulary in some Northern gorge [link] or canyon-like setting.
